When did the band begin, and how?
The current lineup of Matt, Brad
and Josh, has been together for
about two years now. However,
Matt and Brad have been playing
music together for over five years
in each others garages and base-
ments, with the addition of Josh
coming later.
What's the name of the band all about?
The band name comes from a
book by Emily Bronte, "Wuther-
ing Heights". Heathcliff is a mys-
terious main character who not
only plays with the emotions
of other lead characters, but his
own as well, in the dramatic love
story.
Most hated question- what style are you
guys if you had to put a name on it?
We like to consider ourselves our
own style, however if we had
to put a name on it, it would be
Rock/Progressive with a touch of
90's alternative mixed in.
What do you think shapes your sound?
Our sound is just plain and simple
shaped by us. Our own personal
influences come into focus along
with how we react and bounce
off each other when writing new
material. If we are all not on the
same page about a song
or it's simply not match-
ing up, we will put it on
the back burner, come
back to it later, and see
what the outcome is.
What inspires your lyrics?
MATT: A lot of my lyr-
ics come from personal
events and happenings
in my life, along with
trying to connect with
other people and their
perspective on the
world and different
situations as
well.
How does the
music you write
influence your
live
perfor-
mance?
We like our
music to ei-
ther be hard-
hitting or be
technical and
in-depth mu-
sically. The
i m p o r t a n t
part to us in
a live per-
formance is
to ultimately
grab the listener and make them fo-
cus on your music. Each song has its
own feeling and life on stage and its
important as a band to portray that
feeling to the listener to bring them
to where you are as well.
You guys are a three piece. Do you think
three piece bands create music differently
than other bands? If so why is this?
Although a three piece band is becom-
ing a rarity in today's music world.
There are some three piece bands still
holding strong, Sick Puppies, Chev-
elle, Green Day. While being a three
piece, we
can't do all
the things
a four or
five piece
can,
we
try to push
ourselves
to
that
boundary
as
much
as
pos-
sible. In
the areas
we can't
m a t c h
five piece
bands, we
make up
for it with
our hard
h i t t i n g
riffs and
melodies.
What is more
important to
you
guys,
playing live
or
writing
music?
A mixture of both is the ideal an-
swer, but playing live gives more of
