west" of America's history, and
there were many people who chose
to make and follow their own rules
in the name of progress. I don't
know much more about Mr. Wild-
man except one story my mother
told me about him walking in the
living room full of grand kids (my
mother included), where he would
get all the kids riled up. Then he'd
leave the room for another adult to
unknowingly walk into a room of
screaming children, ending in them
being disciplined. So it sounds like
Frank didn't only use instigation in
business and politics, but sometimes
to satisfy his own amusement.
What does this short story have
to do with my drunken "second"
personality? Well, maybe this is
where Gulch gets his playful face-
tious ways. While all of the altru-
istic family and friends that have
molded much of my positive, laid
back personality are all crowded on
my right shoulder, all talking over
each other trying to con-
vince me to do the right
thing, maybe Gulch gets
annoyed by this murmur
and turns to the one dis-
tinguishable voice in my
left ear that says, "Let's
have fun and mess with
these fools...what is the
worst that can happen?"
Maybe all of the people
that are inclined to inform
me of what a pain in the ass
I was the night before aren't very
amused by my actions and behav-
iors, but if old Frank Wildman re-
ally is watching and I can make him
crack a mischievous smile, then it's all
worth it. I think my "second person"
will feel he has done his job. I'll nev-
er really know though, if I knew this
kind of stuff for certain it wouldn't
be called a "second person" now
would it?
